Stinkbugs

The brown marmorated stink bug gets its name from its tendency to release an odor when disturbed or crushed. Stink bugs have a distinctive shield shape with a flat top and pointed bottom, similar to a shield. They have wings and are able to fly when needed.

Stink bugs are considered an invasive species, meaning an insect of foreign origin. So where do stink bugs come from? They were first introduced to the United States from Eastern Asia in the mid-1990s. Their native home originated from China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

Stink bugs are usually seen mostly in the fall and spring seasons around exterior plants, bushes and harborage areas. They often enter indoors through windows, doors, cracks and gaps. Broken seals, open chimney caps and exterior doors without door sweeps are common ways they get inside. Seeking shelter, stink bugs are attracted to the light and warmth of the indoors. Treatment around the exterior perimeter, doors and windows on a regular basis is the best way to keep stink bugs out.
